About Kamran Khodaverdian

Kamran Khodaverdian is a pianist, composer, conductor and teacher with more than 42 years of teaching experience. His musical education combines Persian musical traditions with Western classical music, giving his teaching a distinctive and broad foundation.

Kamran studied Santour and Tombak to a professional level and trained with respected Iranian musicians including Farhad Fakhreddini, Irdj Sahbai, Ardeshir Rohani and Fereydoun Nasehi. After moving to New Zealand, he continued his development through piano and composition masterclasses at the University of Auckland, including sessions with internationally acclaimed pianists Vladimir Ashkenazy and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.

For approximately 18 years, Kamran has also researched and refined his own approach to piano technique, focusing on healthy movement, control, expression and the relationship between the pianist and the instrument.

His lessons are tailored to each student’s age, ability, learning style and goals—from young beginners and returning adults to advanced performers and examination candidates. Rather than simply teaching individual pieces, Kamran helps students develop strong technique, musical understanding, confidence and the skills to become independent, expressive pianists.
